Bad Axe, Mich., has long been known as one of the most dangerous places in the state. Now it's about to get a little safer.
MLive.com reports that the Huron County Community Foundation is working to clean up two old buildings in theThumb's Bad Axe and transform an entrance to downtown into a "vibrant and thriving place for all residents to live, work, and play."
The foundation is using its "impact investing" approach, which the Detroit Free Press describes as "a way, however, to have a tangible impact on the communities they serve, to put their money where their mouths are."
According to MLive.com, community foundations typically focus on grant-making and other nonprofit support.
But "this is a way, however, to have a tangible impact on the communities they serve, to put their money where their mouths are," says Community Foundation for Oceana County CEO Tammy Carey.
For example, the Fremont Area Community Foundation is using "impact investing" to make a difference in western Michigan counties of Newaygo, Lake, and Mecosta.
