Reps Commend Dangote'S Social Investment Strides in Kogi

Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man and president of the Dangote Group, is known for his business acumen, but it's his philanthropy that's earned him the nickname "Africa's richest man."

That's because, as the Guardian reports, he's given away tens of millions of dollars to communities around his oil-rich home of Nigeria.

In fact, lawmakers in the country say they're "satisfied with the performance" of the group's social investment in communities around its coal mine in Kogi State, as well as its efforts to ensure road safety.

"We are satisfied with the performance of the Dangote Coal Mines Limited in terms of its relationship with communities, and its efforts in ensuring road safety," says the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Road Safety Commission.

A rep for the Dangote Group says Dangote is "very committed to the company's social investment" and that the company has "performed beyond expectations in line with the mutually consented Community Development Agreement."

The Guardian notes that in addition to the tens of millions of dollars that Dangote has given to communities in the state, the company has also built schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure for the people who live around the mine.
